New Ventures Developer Named Family Business of the Year
(Wilkes-Barre) The Small Business Development Center of Wilkes University
has announced Sincavage Investment and Development Enterprises Corporation
(S.I.D.E) as the winner of the 1999 Northeastern Pennsylvania Family Business
of the Year Award. S.I.D.E. was presented the award in the Small Firms category,
covering firms with fewer than 50 employees.
"First, we would like to congratulate all the nominees. We were
honored to be part of such an outstanding group of businesses," said
S.I.D.E. Corporation President Mark Sincavage, expressing his family's gratitude.
"This honor belongs to our grandparents and parents for giving us
such a great foundation. More than just a financial foundation, they gave
us the work ethic and sense of moral responsibility that helped us grow
the business," he continued. Our job now is to continue honoring them
by planning for the future and instilling the fourth generation of the Sincavage
family with the same commitment to moral responsibility and integrity."
Family businesses play a crucial and often under appreciated role in
the local economy. Sincavage Investment and Development Enterprises Corporation
is an excellent example. The Sincavage family's latest project, New Ventures
Commercial Park - Monroe County's largest available commercial property
with central sewer, is already delivering industrial revenues and jobs to
the area. In addition, the Sincavage family recently received the Pocono
Mountains Chamber of Commerce Environmental Committee's "Save Our Planet"
award for the sound environmental approach used in New Ventures' development.
The Tobyhanna Township Board of Supervisors recently approved construction
of a Best Western Inn as the newest addition to New Ventures Commercial
Park.
With the goal to improve the community as well as the company, the Sincavage
family has owned and operated their multi-faceted company since 1950. S.I.D.E.
Corporation has evolved from its origins as a sawmill, to a hardware and
lumber store, to its present business as an excavation contractor and real
estate developer. Today the third generation of the Sincavage family is
exploring new opportunities with an eye to future generations, the future
of Blakeslee, and the Poconos.
The awards program shows appreciation and local support to businesses
that face unique issues. The awards also serve to publicize family business
accomplishments individually and as a group so that all local family businesses
are better understood and appreciated.
The NEPA Family Business of the Year Awards are awarded to firms demonstrating
the results of combining strong business and strong family. In addition
to business success, those recognized demonstrate: positive family/business
linkage, multigenerational family business involvement, contributions to
industry and community and innovative business practices or strategies.
Awards are given in each of three categories: small (fewer than 50 employees),
medium (50-250 employees) and large (more than 250 employees).
Mountain Manor Inn, Inc., in Marshalls Creek, was the winner in the medium
firms category. Silberline Manufacturing of Tamaqua won the award for large
firms.
Toby Supervisors Approve Hotel for New Ventures Commercial Park!
Tobyhanna---The Tobyhanna Township Board of Supervisors has given final
approval for an 84-room Best Western Inn to be built in New Ventures Commercial
Park at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Route 115. Mark Sincavage,
president of Sincavage Investment and Development Enterprises or S.I.D.E.
Corporation - the park's developer, says that the hotel will bring as many
as 15-20 new jobs to Monroe County.
The hotel, to be known as the Best Western Inn at Blakeslee-Pocono, is
being built by Pocono Hospitality Corporation. Design plans for the three-story
structure include several suites, a meeting room and an indoor pool. The
supervisors' approval allows for an addition of 30 or more rooms in the
future.
Douglas Neison, general manager of Pocono Hospitality, says the company
plans to break ground for the hotel this summer and hopes to have the facility
open for business by December. The company also owns the Ramada Inn Pocono
at Lake Harmony.
Neison said location and amenities were key factors in the decision to
locate in New Ventures Commercial Park. "One of our primary reasons
was the availability of central sewer," said Doug Neison, vice-president
of Pocono Hospitality Corp. "I'm pretty bullish on the Poconos in general,
but the central sewer, combined with future development in the park, and
the proximity of the raceway and some of the ski areas made the location
very attractive."
New Ventures Commercial Park is currently Monroe County's largest properly
zoned commercial development to feature central sewer. The park is also
home to Pocono Mountain Dairies and Northeast Core and Component. S.I.D.E.
Corporation, the park's developer, recently received the Pocono Mountains
Chamber of Commerce Environmental Committee's "Save Our Planet"
award for the sound environmental approach used in the New Ventures' development.
Three Businesses Announce Plans to Locate in New Ventures Commercial
Park
Tobyhanna---Sincavage Investment and Development Enterprises, or S.I.D.E.
Corporation, developer of New Ventures Commercial Park, located at the intersection
of Interstate 80 and Route 115 in Tobyhanna Township, announced that two
more companies plan to locate in New Ventures. Mark Sincavage, president
of S.I.D.E., says that the completed projects would bring three businesses
and as many as 20-25 new jobs to Monroe County.
Reilly Associates, engineer for both Northeast Core and Component, Inc.
and Pocono Hospitality Corporation, presented site development plans for
both businesses to the Tobyhanna Township Planning Commission. Groundbreaking
on both projects could take place in June.
Northeast Core and Component, Inc. (NCC), a wholesale buyer and supplier
of the cores used in rebuilt auto parts, submitted plans for a 15,000 square
foot building. The company has already moved to New Ventures and will occupy
an existing building until its new facility is completed in late May. NCC
will occupy half of the new building. New Tech, a powder coating company
currently located in northern New Jersey, has already agreed to occupy the
remainder of the building.
Pocono Hospitality Corporation, headquartered in Lake Harmony, presented
development plans for an 84-room motel. The motel expects to open under
the Best Western banner and anticipates hiring 15-20 employees, including
several managers. The design plans include several suites, a meeting room
and an indoor pool. Pocono Hospitality Corp. currently operates the Ramada
Inn in Lake Harmony and hopes to open the Tobyhanna facility in late autumn.
Representatives for both companies said location and amenities were key
factors in their decisions to locate in New Ventures Commercial Park. "One
of our primary reasons was the availability of central sewer," said
Doug Neison, vice-president of Pocono Hospitality Corp. "I'm pretty
bullish on the Poconos in general, but the central sewer, combined with
future development in the park, and the proximity of the raceway and some
of the ski areas made the location very attractive."
"There isn't any other property like this available," said
Jerry Rizzo, president of Northeast Core and Component. "The location
is excellent. You're an hour and a half from New York City and North Jersey,
an hour and forty-five minutes from Philly, trucking is inexpensive and
you don't have to wind trailers through neighborhoods and streets to get
your product in and out."
New Ventures Commercial Park is currently Monroe County's largest properly
zoned commercial development to feature central sewer. The park is also
home to Pocono Mountain Dairies. S.I.D.E. Corporation, the park's developer,
recently received the Pocono Mountains Chamber of Commerce Environmental
Committee's "Save Our Planet" award for the sound environmental
approach used in the New Ventures' development.
New Ventures Environmental Measures Earn Environmental Award
Stroudsburg---Sincavage Investment and Development Enterprises (S.I.D.E.)
Corporation, a private developer, has been named as one of the winners of
the "Save Our Planet" awards. The awards, given by the Pocono
Mountains Chamber of Commerce Environmental Committee, recognize environmental
achievement and leadership by area businesses, organizations and individuals.
S.I.D.E., awarded in the Business category, was recognized for the environmentally
sensitive approach used during development of the New Ventures Commercial
Park, located at Interstate 80 and Route 115 in Blakeslee. The park is currently
Monroe County's largest properly-zoned commercial park with available central
sewer.
"It's commendable to see a private developer take responsibility
for attracting business to the area," said Jane Roach, chair of the
Environmental Committee. "But it's even more commendable to see one
take the lead in addressing environmental issues." S.I.D.E. had the
Army Corps of Engineers survey the land comprising New Ventures Commercial
Park before presenting plans to Tobyhanna Township's supervisors. The corporation
also used a revolutionary directional drilling technique to connect its
central sewage collection system to the Tobyhanna Township sewage treatment
facility.
"We thought it would be easier to protect the delicate wetlands
in the park if we handled the surveys ourselves," said Mark Sincavage,
president of S.I.D.E. Corporation. "It allowed us to protect the entire
55-acre area at once rather than having buyers handle it piecemeal. And
using directional drilling to connect the park's central sewage collection
system to the township's treatment facility allowed us to preserve the natural
beauty of the area where the pipe crosses under the Tobyhanna Creek."
Sincavage also said that S.I.D.E. anticipates working with the Tobyhanna
Township Board of Supervisors to create greenways along New Ventures' Tobyhanna
Creek frontage.
The "Save Our Planet" awards will be given during the Chamber
of Commerce's monthly Women in Business luncheon. The luncheon, being held
at Ridgecrest at Stroudsmoor County Inn, will begin at noon, Tuesday, January
12.
